Being able to get down to and up from the floor is an essential movement skill.
It is not only one of the first things we learn as infants; it is one of the last things we want to lose as we age.
Being able to do so smoothly and without unnecessary effort speaks to our ability to control our musculoskeletal system. People who do this regularly counteract the long-term effects of gravity and maintain their proprioceptive abilities. When you have safe and easier ways to get up and down, you reduce your anxiety about losing your balance, which reduces your risk of falling.
In many societies, especially where the use of chairs is still not prevalent, people are able to get to and from the floor with relative ease even in their advanced years. In the developed world, we have lost that easy relationship with the floor.
In this workshop we will work with gentle movement sequences which work on regaining our ability to interact smoothly, easily and gracefully with the ground
The lessons are for beginners as well as students experienced with the Feldenkrais Method and are easy to do and often result in profound changes and insights or how we move and are in the world.
In Awareness Through Movement classes, the practitioner guides you through a sequence of slow, gentle & non-strenuous movements. You explore different ways to perform the same movement. By slowing down and paying attention, you provide feedback and options to your nervous system, enhancing self-awareness and improving function.
A tool for self-exploration and self-improvement that can benefit everyone; from the seriously impaired to the accomplished athlete
Lessons are easy to do; the results can be immediate & profound.
Participants often experience improvements in posture,
lightness in movement and freedom from chronic discomfort.
Whether carrying groceries, working at your desk, practicing Yoga, playing the piano or competing in a triathlon, everything becomes easier.
