In Buddhist spirituality, prajñā (wisdom) is thought to be one of the two highest qualities, along with karuṇā (compassion), that we can cultivate through our spiritual practice. In this case, wisdom indicates an understanding of the true nature of reality and the self, and goes far beyond mere intellectual knowledge, including emotional understanding and understanding within the physical body itself. Wisdom is represented by two divine beings: the bodhisattva Māñjuśrī, and the goddess Sarasvatī, who came into Buddhism from the Vedic tradition as an embodiment of Prajñā Pāramitā (Perfection of Wisdom). The two form an intricately entwined energy matrix that invites profound insight which leads to liberation.
The mantras for this immersion will include Māñjuśrī’s root mantra, oṁ a ra pa ca na dhīḥ, which is formed from the first five letters of the Buddhist wisdom alphabet, and Sarasvatī’s Mahābīja Mantra, aiṁ hrīṁ śrīṁ klīṁ sauḥ klīṁ hrīṁ aiṁ blūṁ strīṁ nīlatāre sarasvatī drāṁ drīṁ klīṁ blūṁ sauḥ aiṁ hrīṁ śrīṁ klīṁ sauḥ sauḥ hrīṁ svāhā, which opens our mind’s up to the truth of infinite consciousness. The mantras will be accompanied by a lyrical recitation of verses from the Prajñā Pāramitā text itself.
Ian sings sacred bhajans (prayer songs) and leads the group in chanting mantras, accompanied by drums, harmonium, Indian harp, and various other instruments.
Margo creates a soundscape of sacred vibrations using Himalayan singing bowls, Chinese wind gong, and more, that form an environment of healing and meditative energies.
